This particular mug is exceedingly smooth. Joel Cherrico implemented multiple techniques at various stages of the pottery process to emphasize buttery, smooth surface results.
This mug also has subtle accents of iron browns from "Red Iron Oxide" color. This added detail helps the mugs feel slightly warmer and more rustic than our standard Asteroid and Moon Mug styles.
Moon Mugs and Asteroid Mugs are inspired by lunar and planetary surfaces and shapes. Vibrant color contrasts on the circular, carved textures only come through hours of meticulous work. Colors are inspired by the various colors of cosmic phenomena throughout our solar system, including asteroids and moons orbiting other planets. Joel Cherrico blends these ideas with marks from his hands and fingers when forming the pottery, emphasizing the handmade nature of the art. These mugs are not meant to duplicate exact lunar surfaces, but instead to represent how these surfaces feel when they are translated into clay in the form of a handcrafted, pottery mug.
