Colors are inspired by the various colors of cosmic phenomena throughout our solar system, including asteroids and moons orbiting other planets. Joel Cherrico blends these ideas with marks from his hands and fingers when forming the pottery, emphasizing the handmade nature of the art. These mugs are not meant to duplicate exact lunar surfaces, but instead to represent how these surfaces feel when they are translated into clay in the form of a handcrafted, pottery mug.
