Mars Mugs
Taste the Universe everyday from one of the most intricate mugs on the planet.
Mars Mugs are inspired by the "Red Planet" which is known for a surface covered in iron oxide. I use "Spanish Iron Oxide" and more custom glaze colorants, combined with my unique glaze chemistry and 2280 degree F. kiln firing, to create 100% non-toxic, food safe Mars Mugs.
Planetary geology on Mars includes the largest mountain in our solar system, "Olympus Mons" and a canyon as long as the United States: "Valles Marineris" known as "The Grand Canyon of Mars."
Each Mars Mug is uniquely handcrafted to include intricate colors and textures, applied in abstract ways, inspired by Mars' natural geology.
Vibrant color contrasts on circular, slowly crafted mugs only come through hours of tedious work. Interior, food-safe colors are also tediously applied. Over 5 different pottery glazes, created by Joel Cherrico from custom glaze chemistry and appliction, must melt in extraordinary ways, in order for each mug to be successfully finished.
These mugs are not meant to duplicate exact cosmic surfaces, but instead to represent how these surfaces feel when they are translated into clay in the form of a handcrafted, pottery mug.
They are unique, functional pieces of cosmic art that are truly out of this world.
