This mug is inspired by the gnarly textures and shapes of the Willamette Meteorite, located in the American Museum of Natural History. I think of these mugs as abstract sculptures that you can drink from daily.
The carvings in the surface of this pot resemble the process of ablation, which happens when a meteorite plummets through Earth's atmosphere. Pieces of the space rock are melted and chipped off from friction. I carved textures into this pot to resemble the textures commonly found in meteorites.
Functional
All of our Stoneware and porcelain pottery is 100% food and dishwasher safe. Meteor pottery, including Meteoriod Cups and Meteorite Mugs, are made with Copper metal colorant and should not be microwaved. Microwaving these pots would be similar to a mild form of microwaving a piece of silverware. Do not microwave this pot.
