Vibrant color contrasts on the circular, carved textures only come through hours of tedious work. The reddish stain on the mugs is meant to represent the effect of the iron oxide prevalent on Mars's surface. Mars Mug interior glazes are also tediously applied with up to 6 different glazes, which must melt perfectly in order for each mug to be successfully finished. If the glazes turn out successfully, the colors will resemble those found in nebulae gas clouds, like those captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.
These mugs are not meant to duplicate exact lunar surfaces, but instead to represent how these surfaces feel when they are translated into clay in the form of a handcrafted, pottery mug.
All of our Stoneware and porcelain pottery is 100% food and dishwasher safe.
